Probing BEC phase fluctuations with atomic quantum dots

چکیده
We consider the dephasing of two internal states |0〉 and |1〉 of a trapped impurity atom, a so-called atomic quantum dot (AQD), where only state |1〉 couples to a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). A direct relation between the dephasing of the internal states of the AQD and the temporal phase fluctuations of the BEC is established. Based on this relation we suggest a scheme to probe BEC phase fluctuations nondestructively via dephasing measurements of the AQD. In particular, the scheme allows to trace the dependence of the phase fluctuations on the trapping geometry of the BEC. Submitted to: New J. Phys. Matter-wave amplification and phase conjugation via stimulated dissociation of a molecular Bose-Einstein condensate
We propose a scheme for parametric amplification and phase conjugation of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate sBECd via stimulated dissociation of a BEC of molecular dimers consisting of bosonic atoms. This can potentially be realized via coherent Raman transitions or using a magnetic Feshbach resonance. We show that the interaction of a small incoming atomic BEC with a sstationaryd molecular BE...
متن کاملProbing electric and magnetic vacuum fluctuations with quantum dots.
The electromagnetic-vacuum-field fluctuations are intimately linked to the process of spontaneous emission of light. Atomic emitters cannot probe electric- and magnetic-field fluctuations simultaneously because electric and magnetic transitions correspond to different selection rules. In this Letter we show that semiconductor quantum dots are fundamentally different and are capable of mediating...
متن کاملQuantum correlated twin atomic beams via photodissociation of a molecular Bose-Einstein condensate
The successful production of Bose-Einstein condensates ~BEC! has led to measurements indicating that BECs have coherence properties similar to lasers. This suggests that the next stage in obtaining precision measurements in atom optics is the production of atom beams with sub-Poissonian atom statistics—as has been widely demonstrated in photonics applications. Indeed, there is already some indi...
متن کاملGiant superconducting fluctuations in the compensated semimetal FeSe at the BCS–BEC crossover
The physics of the crossover between weak-coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and strong-coupling Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) limits gives a unified framework of quantum-bound (superfluid) states of interacting fermions. This crossover has been studied in the ultracold atomic systems, but is extremely difficult to be realized for electrons in solids. Recently, the superconducting semime...
متن کاملDensity correlations in ultracold atomic Fermi gases
We investigate density fluctuations in a coherent ensemble of interacting fermionic atoms. Adapting the concept of full counting statistics, well known from quantum optics and mesoscopic electron transport, we study second-order as well as higher-order correlators of density fluctuations. Using the mean-field BCS state to describe the whole interval between the BCS limit and the Bose-Einstein c...
